Junior Curling Program
PROGRAM MISSION
Detroit Curling Club’s Juniors Program aims to inspire and empower young athletes through the sport of curling by developing skills and teaching the values of teamwork, respect, and sportsmanship. We are committed to creating a supportive and inclusive environment where junior curlers of all skill levels can grow both on and off the ice, building confidence, character, and a lifelong love for the game.
DOES YOUR CHILD WANT TO TRY CURLING?
Visit our Rentals page for information about group rentals for school, youth, and scouting groups (ages 11 and older).
We offer occasional Junior Learn to Curl classes for 6-18 year-olds new to the sport. Next class:
- Dates: November 16, November 23, and December 7, 2025 (No class 11/30)
- Time: 1:00-2:00 PM
- Cost: $30.00
- Register through Ferndale Parks & Rec
If a class isn’t available, or if your child has curled before, contact the Juniors coaches at [email protected]. We can schedule a time for your child to give curling a try!
If your child would like to continue curling, they should become junior members of the club to participate in our U19 or Little Rocks leagues.
ABOUT THE JUNIORS PROGRAM
Children 6-18 years old must join the club as Junior Members to participate in our Junior Leagues. Junior membership is $265 for the season, which runs from early November through early April. Member registration opens in September; Juniors can join after the season has started. The club provides all equipment, but children 12 and under must bring a helmet.
The Juniors Program provides instruction and competition suited to each participant’s level of play, led by qualified instructors from within our club. Juniors learn the basics of curling, work on skills development, and become familiar with the strategy and etiquette of the game. The Juniors Program is composed of two groups:
Little Rocks (6-10 years old)
Selected Sundays*: 2:00–3:30 p.m. (when there isn’t an event)
Half the weight, twice the fun! Little Rocks uses half-weight (20-pound) curling rocks and focuses on fun min-games that teach curling fundamentals, encourage good sportsmanship, and inspire a love of the game.
U19 Juniors (11-18 years old)
Selected Sundays*: 2:00–3:30 p.m. (when there isn’t an event)
Wednesdays: 4:00–5:30 p.m.
The U19 program focuses on developing skills, strategy, and sportsmanship for both recreational and competitive curlers, while helping interested Juniors prepare for bonspiels and competitions. U19 Juniors have the opportunity–but are not required–to compete in competitions at other curling clubs throughout the Great Lakes Curling Association region and Canada.
*Selected Sundays: approximately 13 Sundays during the season, when the club is not hosting a special event
WHAT OUR JUNIORS SAY
The DCC Junior’s Program means a lot to me. My favorite thing about the program is curling with my friends. I have made new friends through the program. Curling has taught me patience and the value of teamwork. – Claudia
