FERNDALE, Jan. 26 -- Former World Champion Curler to Open Junior Nationals at Detroit

Former world champion, multiple national champion, Olympian and Detroit Curling Club member Ann Swisshelm will deliver a ceremonial stone to open the U.S. Junior National Curling Championships, Jan. 27 at 1:00pm, at the club in Ferndale.

Ten women's and ten men's teams will compete for the honor of representing the United States at the junior world championships in Scotland in March.  The competition begins at 3:00 pm and continues through Saturday, Feb. 3.

In addition to the first stone, the Opening Ceremonies will include a colorful parade of athletes, accompanied by an authentic pipe band, and led by junior flag bearers from the club.

The Detroit Curling Club is a dedicated curling facility with four sheets of ice and a spacious lounge and viewing area. We're in Ferndale, Michigan, close to Downtown Detroit and centrally located between major freeways (I-75 and I-696). We are the only curling club in the Detroit metropolitan area and have an active membership who joins for one primary purpose - to enjoy the grand old game of curling!
