Monday Ladies League: 6:30 p.m. League Rules  2017/2018

Sessions:

There are 3 sessions to this league as listed:

First Session (6-7 weeks, usually ending around Christmas): Skips Ladder, Play for prize

Second Session (6-7 weeks, depending on calendar): USWCA All- American

Third Session (6-7 weeks, depending on calendar): Ladies Club Championship/Skips Ladder (Play for “Chick Pins”)

First Session:

This session is a Skips Ladder. Skips will be decided upon based on who indicates they want to be a skip (starting with first choice and then moving to second choice, if needed) when registering.  If there are not enough skips after this, then the draw master will as for volunteers or assign skips based on those who registered for vice.

Skips will pick their teams on the first night of curling.  Skips will choose their teams from members in the Player Pool. Skips will each draw a playing card to determine the order in which they will choose their vice skips. Then the order will be reversed to choose their seconds and back to the original order to choose their leads. (I.e. There are 6 teams, the skip with card #1 will select first, card #2, etc.  The skip with card #6 will choose their vice and then choose their second.  Then the skip with card #5 will choose their second, etc.  After the skip with card #1 chooses their second, they will choose their lead.  The skip with card #2 will then choose their lead, etc. until all teams are full).  The order of draw will also determine the team number.

If a skip has a team they wish to play with, this is allowed but must be declared during the registration process.

Rocks played per Game:

If both teams have 4 people or one team has 4 people and 1 team has 3 people, then eight rocks will be played.  If both teams only have 3 people, it is encouraged to still play eight rocks, however, it will be up to the skips to determine if six or eight rocks will be played.

Scoring:

Scoring will be based on win-loss record.  Tiebreakers will be total number of points and then total number of ends won.

A new incentive to get in 8 ends of curling is being introduced.  A bonus End point will be awarded to both teams if they play the 8th End.

Time Limit:

Games will begin promptly at 6:30pm each night.  If all team members for both teams are present and ready to play, a team may start early.  No new ends may begin after 8:13 PM. The time clock will be used to time games.  The clock will be set to count down from 1 hour and 43 minutes.  When the clocks reach Zero, you would finish the end you are currently playing. No new end may be started after the clock reaches Zero time remaining.

Sub Rules:

A sub curling on any team may curl in no higher position than the person he/she is subbing for. Example: a person subbing for a lead must play lead. A person subbing for a second may play lead or second. A person subbing for a vice skip may play lead, second, or vice skip. Finally, a person subbing for a skip may play any position, except skip (i.e. they may play vice, second or lead).

It is up to the member to arrange for a sub.  They should let their skip and the draw master know who will be subbing for them.

Situations Not Covered By Above Rules:

In the event a situation or dispute arising between teams that is not covered by the above rules or the Rules of Curling of the US Curling Association, and cannot be resolved by mutual agreement of the skips themselves, the Drawmaster has ultimate authority to make a determination and settle the dispute in question.  The Draw master may make any other determinations involving the league as she sees fit in keeping with the concept of fair play.

Second Session:

This session is the USWCA All-American.  Rules will be governed by the USWCA official All-American rules.  Any rules listed here are current best practices by the club.

Skips will pick their teams on the last night of first session.

No pre-determined teams are allowed during this session.  Any team wishing to play as a team may do so, however, they will be ineligble to play for the All-American.  Any games they play against teams in the All-American will be a win or bye for the All-American team.

Rocks played per Game:

Third Session:

This session is the DCC Ladies Club Championship and Skips Ladder.

Skips Ladder:

For those ladies who normally curl on this league but do not want to participate in the Ladies Club Championship, teams will be picked out of that pool.  Skips will pick their teams on the last night of second session.

Ladies Club Championship teams may play as a team in the third session on nights they are not playing a round robin game in the championship (as practice).  However, they cannot compete for the “Chick Pins.”  The team they play will automatically get a win.

The winner of the session receives the “Chick Pins.”

Finally, a person subbing for a skip may play any position, except skip (i.e. they may play vice, second or lead).

It is up to the member to arrange for a sub.  They should let their skip and the draw master know who will be subbing for them.

Situations Not Covered By Above Rules:

In the event a situation or dispute arising between teams that is not covered by the above rules or the Rules of Curling of the US Curling Association, and cannot be resolved by mutual agreement of the skips themselves, the Draw master has ultimate authority to make a determination and settle the dispute in question.  The Draw master may make any other determinations involving the league as she sees fit in keeping with the concept of fair play.

Ladies Club Championship:

Teams:

Skips must sign up their teams no later than 2 weeks before the session begins.  Communications will be sent out by the draw master on how and where to sign up their teams.

Skips may submit either a 4 person or 5 person team.  No players can be added to a team roster after the first night of the third session of the Ladies league.

All teams must have a minimum of two players who will be available to play during each of the round robin games and the championship game to be eligible to play in any of the games.

Rocks played per Game:

Eight rocks must be played in all games regardless of the number of people per team.

Games:

Depending on the number of teams signed up for the championship, there will be a round robin.  The two teams that finish at the top of the rankings after the round robin will play in the championship game.  Teams will be allowed to play as team in the ladies third session (as practice).

If only two teams sign up for the championship, there will only be a championship game before the Champagne Spiel.  Those teams will be allowed to play in the ladies third session as a team (as practice) but will not play each other.

Scoring:

Scoring will be based on win-loss record.  For determining team standings and breaking ties between teams, the following rules will apply in the following order:

  • Head-to-Head winner between the tied team(s)
  • If still tied, then the team with the skip’s shortest distance to the button with 2 sweepers (shot the last night of the round robin games)
  • Finally, a coin toss

Game Rules:

Games will begin promptly at 6:30pm each night.  If all team members for both teams are present and ready to play, a team may start early.  Games are eight ends.  A team can concede at any time.  If the game is tied after 8 ends, then the tie is broken by a skip’s draw to the button, with 2 sweepers.

All games will be played on Mondays during the 6:30pm league except for the Championship game which will be held during the day of the Champagne Spiel.  The date and time of the Championship game is determined by the Club schedule.  Any change to the time of the Championship game needs to be approved by the Board/Draw master for the Championship games.

If a team does not have 3 players ready to play by 15 minutes after the start time, the other team posts 1 point and 1 end and gets the hammer for the 2nd end.  If a team does not have 3 players ready to play by 30 minutes after the starting time, a forfeit is declared.

Sub Rules:

Teams with 5 players on their roster (declared before the first night Ladies third session) can have any roster player play any position in any game, including skip.

Roster players from one team cannot play for another team in any game.

If a sub is used, the sub must play lead.  If two subs are used, they must play lead and second.

It is up to teams to arrange for a sub.  Members should let their skip and the draw master know who will be subbing for them before the game.
